John Paul II said it best, "Human embryos are human beings. Respect for the dignity of the human being excludes all experimental manipluation or exploitation of the human embryo."

Recent scientific advances show that any medical cure that might arise from experimentation on fetal stem cells can be developed by using adult stem cells instead. Adult stem cells can be obtained without doing harm to adults from whom they come. Thus, there no longer is a medical argument in favor of using fetal stem cells.

With mountains of capital willing to be ventured towards any promising developments, "federal funding" is just a way to keep a lot of laggards in their labs with lifetime employment and full benefits.

For an interesting discussion on the subject, please see John Train's "No amount of Tanzanians can put a Man on the Moon."

The IDIOTIC Republicans have blocked this critical research for years to keep their religious right wing constituents happy. After Bush`s stupidity and radical policies that nearly ruined this country, hopefully now some common sense will prevail
