More on Nokia: Lumia shipments totaled 4.4M, up from Q3's 2.9M and generally above forecasts. Stephen Elop says Lumia 920 sales were supply-constrained. Total smart devices sales were 6.6M, -64% Y/Y (withering Symbian base), but thanks to a higher Lumia mix, ASP jumped to €182 from Q3's €155. Mobile phone units were 79.6M, -15% Y/Y, ASP roughly even Q/Q at €31. 9.3M Asha phones sold, up from 6.5M in Q3. NOK +17.6%. (PR)

A new beginning for Nokia that many of us bulls were expecting. Need to see the numbers carefully, but the margin change is amazing given the low sales volume. Imagine what will happen when global introduction, without supply constraints, goes ahead as planned. I think this is great news.

They could sell 12m next quarter if they market the phone correctly.

Yeah... But... The price per unit is reasonably good though so I'm betting a substantial proportion were [89]20s which were only introduced half way through the quarter, and which were clearly supply constrained on the different colours. We knew that though with them popping up and down the sales charts & the "pre-orders" on the web sites.

I'm seeing adverts for them now, and I'm seeing people expressing interest in the stores so Q1 and beyond will be full gas I reckon.

Asha rocks though don't they. If they keep up that growth rate they'll take Android low end business.

Keep in mind the Lumia 920 began selling in November and wasn't launched in China or India at this time. Wait till next quarter = 8+ million

    Sal,
This is even better news BECAUSE the volume was low. Imagine what is going to happen in 2013 when all their devices are properly sold in all their markets.

The whole story is contributing to the lift not just lumia sales although those show a very promising future... especially since Elop says that the lumias were supply constrained...

Next quarter we'll see how China takes to them. Can't wait for the earnings call

The simple strategy "do the opposite of what the majority of analysts suggest" worked once again. When everybody upgrades Nokia, one has to start to be careful...
