Audio- and video-monitoring company Nice Systems (NICE +7.4%) is reportedly in talks to acquire rival Verint (VRNT +10.9%) for $1.5B in cash and stock in a deal that would represent a 19% premium on the latter's market cap of $1.26B. Nice would use its $422M cash reserves to help pay for the transaction, which would boost its presence in the defense sector - 75% of the the firm's sales are to the civilian sector.

    Long NICE and have been very patient watching it do nothing despite good earnings growth. Good to see they are making use of their cash to grow. Merger should be a big plus.
