Is this justice the American way? GS will pay a fraction of the profit in fine and gets off the hook.

Exactly--ever since the mid/late 1800's, when corporations were considered equals to citizens. Might want to remember that in the original Constitution, slaves were 3/5th's of a citizen. Similar perspective has been ongoing for centuries....last 40 years has merely increased the line-item, "cost-of-doing-busines: fines".

No worries, the largest financial institutions are above the law. They simply neither deny or admit wrong doing, pay a nominal fine (slap on wrist), have the issue made illegal to ever discuss again and move onto the next crime. It's known as "legal organized crime". It does not get any better than this.
