The Army Corps of Engineers plans to open the Morganza Spillway to divert water from the swollen Mississippi River. This action will protect New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and refineries operated by Valero (VLO) and Exxon (XOM) at the expense of smaller refineries, and thousands of acres of crops.

Plus do not forget the houses. I am sorry for these people but this is needed. If the spillway is not opened these oil companies will take advantage of the situation.

Expense? Didn't these people know about the Spillway before building? It was just put into place yesterday.

People will build in flood areas for years to come. I suppose the property is cheaper for some strange reason. Its time the government stop bailing out people who build in flood zones.
