The toy industry ended the year with an uptick as late holiday sales helped the sector bring in $16.5B in revenue, down just a bit down from the $16.6B recorded in 2011. With domestic sales gains hard to come by, toy makers Hasbro (HAS +0.9%) and Mattel (MAT +0.6%) continue to look to global markets for growth or by creating new products which interact with mobile devices. LeapFrog (LF +1.6%) ended the year with 3 of the 4 hottest sellers.

I'm looking at SMDM, Singing Machine. I mean, what's not to like? They came up with a perfect home version at the right price for gift giving. The spread is huge, currently around 8 cents bid to 14 cents asked, and little or no volume. Earnings should be out before the end of the month, and it's a turn-around story. So I'd say it's the tip of the week.
