President Obama is reportedly likely to choose former U.S. attorney Mary Jo White as his nomination for head of the SEC. If White is confirmed, she would be the first prosecutor to head the agency, perhaps giving it a tougher edge. White has won convictions against Ramzi Ahmed Yousef for bombing the World Trade Center and mafia boss John Gotti, although she's not known for expertise in securities law.

Dear Ed: you're wrong in your last assertion. Her practice over the past 10 years has involved defending people in SEC investigations. Another perfect revolving-door/Wall-st... insider candidate. For more information see her biography at the Practicing Law Institute: http://bit.ly/UHkQ4h

Good link Tsch. While Ms. White certainly seems to be part of the revolving 1% she sounds far more qualified and well-suited for the post than Kagan, Sotomayor or Lizzie Warren are for theirs.

This administration has caused me to reevaluate my expectations, david. Congress keeps doing their part as well. Nonetheless, the bio link Tsch posted at least indicates she is not tied to Chicago or OWS.

How is it going to matter? Fines are paid but nobody is ever guilty or even charged, no wrongdoing is admitted to, and the common man always takes the reaming while the banks rack up huge profits....Even Corzine still walks free.

Eliminate the SEC. It is useless and causes more problems than it solves.

Well I'm glad she at least isn't afraid of walking into a courtroom. So thats an improvement (assuming thats true).

But if I understand correctly - she's earned millions over the past couple of years DEFENDING folks against the SEC.

Now does anyone see a potential conflict of interest here?

She seems like a decent individual and an improvement over what exists. But it shows just how broken our system is.

Its what the lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the BP case called a revolving door describing what he was pretty sure t he would find if the regulatory agencies and the industries they oversee were to provide him with a complete list of their employees going back 10 yrs

Regardless of who heads SEC, no prosecutions will result until corp lawyer Holder leaves AG office.

Obomo is without question a leftist, antibusiness teacher.. this is just another joke ... a mob prosecutor is now supposed to be the head of the SEC? Conflict of interest... do you think? Seriously, Obomo is anti coal, anti natural gas in vehicles, anti North American independence in fuel production and still thinks "Green" alternatives work in solar! Shame on Americans for voting this excuse for leadership into office again.. The strength of America suffered another blow today with his inauguration .. Never thought I would see a socialist USA. More tax and spend and no limits on the debt...
