Four members of BP's staff apparently died in last week's terrorist attack on the In Amenas gas plant in Algeria, and Statoil (STO) confirms three deaths. BP says it will apply lessons learned to prevent future tragedies; some ought to involve security, as just 32 militants overran 100 guards to capture the plant. Otherwise, the oil majors are hardly shaken by the events in North Africa.

32 militants over-ran 100 guards? Are you sure you want to call them guards still?

more like mall cops... and actually I wouldn't even want to insult the fine mall protectors like that...

As Hillary Clinton said...."what does it matter"....just people.....not a word from the press...a pretty quiet terrorist attack...I guess this is the new normal too...."Otherwise, the oil majors are hardly shaken by the events in North Africa."....just move the number from asset...to a liability column now

Hmm 32 terrorists took out 100 guards. I doubt you could tell the difference between them by the sounds of it.

People like to conveniently forgot everything that it takes for that gasoline to magical appear at your local station. There's huge risk involved, not just in terms of money, but in people's lives. But it's much easier and just plain more fun to demonize the energy industry. The political lib wackos probably figure those nasty oil workers are getting what they deserve. Like Al Gore, whose TV channel was subsidized by oil Sheiks, whose Apple fortune was built on the backs of slave labor at Foxconn, who uses $1400/month in electricity at his 10,000 sq ft mansion and who knows how much at his $9M ocean front villa. For these people, it's all about the inconvenience of being better than the rest of us.
