German power companies prepare a lawsuit against the government for "wiping out ... power production rights with a stroke of the pen." The recent decision to eliminate nuclear power nixes a decade-old agreement to allow plants a certain amount of production until closure.  EONGY.PK +1.4%, RWEOY.PK +1.2%.

    Only about a week old, and it seems that the purely political decision is already running into a lot flak.

     

    Another German newspaper predicted that consumer would be paying 250% more for power in 10 years.

    It's moronic. Nuclear power is relatively safe just like skyscrapers are relatively safe. If you fly a plane into them or they're subjected to the worst series of earthquakes/tsunamis in recent history...bad things happen.

     

    I don't mean to minimize the suffering in Japan right now but pulling the plug on nuclear power based on what happened in Japan is tantamount to all these celebrities that spent half their lives on drugs claiming that vaccines should be eliminated because their child developed autism.
