Though seasonal distortion played a role, a double-digit bounce in auto sales in China for Japanese automakers (TM, HMC, NSANY.OB) during January gives some reason for optimism. On a market share basis, Japanese companies' now hold 16.4% of the Chinese car market, compared to 19.4% a year ago.
