Electric vehicle sales didn't impress in January as Chevrolet (GM -0.6%), Toyota (TM -0.2%), and Nissan (NSANY.OB) all reported lower EV sales than they saw in December. The sluggish start to 2013 follows a year in which hybrid sales accounted for 3% of all auto sales and rose 61% above the level seen in 2011. February will be a key month to see if the dropoff between December and January was due to tax incentives vanishing or indicative of a larger trend.

  • Or......since gas prices were low for most of the month, the attractiveness of an EV fell.
