Pres. Obama will nominate Sally Jewell, CEO of Recreational Equipment Inc., as the next Interior Secretary, replacing the departing Ken Salazar. It's an unusual choice, because the post is typically reserved for career politicians from the West. Jewell has no public policy experience; she was a Mobil Oil engineer and spent 19 years in banking before joining REI in 2005.

Remuneration for campaign contributions. Not an unusual choice at all.

The fact she was a Mobil oil engineer at one point, gives me hope, faint hope, but hope.

She may be well qualified but sounds a little like Chicago reward politics. Hope I am wrong and she is fully qualified but nothing in this administration makes me confident that I am anything but right on the croneyisms.

Yes, she has done a good job there. I hope she can do the same at Interior. Going from industry to that type of job can be iffy.
