Positive reviews have been coming in for the latest update to Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows Phone OS (Mango). Critics are impressed with Mango's innovative feature set and user interface, and its integration with Xbox Live and Office 365. All things considered, Nokia (NOK) has to be pleased to see some positive ink.

So, perhaps the talk of the death of Mr. Softy was premature?

I believe it was in a 1950's folk song, something about John Henry (?) - the quote "Don't ever sell your stock in IBM..."

nokia is toast. thanks to microsoft their shares have been annihilated. how the *#&@ could they be pleased about that. and i'd bet you'll be hard pressed to find one of those reviewers who is actually using it. there's sure no way i would.

I'm an Android user myself and don't have any current plans to switch platforms. But just looking at my own set of contacts, I know one person who's quite happy with his Samsung WP7 phone, and another who currently uses a Motorola Droid, but is planning to have his next phone be a WP7 device. Moreover, I think both of them qualify more as business users rather than gadget enthusiasts.

It won't be easy for WP7 to gain share against iOS and Android, given how much support those platforms have with consumers, carriers, and developers. But I think Microsoft has given itself (and by extension, Nokia) a fighting chance by putting out a quality product.

    From the linked article:

"I think that's about to change"

    "the software is unfinished"

"I've only seen pictures and videos"

"Mango should get some attention once Nokia releases its first Windows Phone"

Ever get the feeling this is the triumph of optimism over reality?

A good example of "buy on rumor (or hype), sell on the news".
