Christine Varney, top antitrust official at the Justice Department, will step down later this year to join a prominent New York M&A law firm, WSJ reports. During her tenure at DOJ, Varney allowed the Live Nation (LYV) and Comcast (CMCSA) deals to go through with asset sales, but prevented a proposed joint bid by Nasdaq (NDAQ) and ICE for NYSE Euronext (NYX).

this is exactly the type of thing that should not be allowed.

You want to be a regulator - fine. But when you leave you can't work in the industry that you were regulated for 5 years. Period.

This is simply corruption when you run the joint, leave, and then come back and ask the people who used to work for you to do as you ask..... especially when the quid pro quo is that after they do as you ask you'll be offering them millions to join your firm.
