Are the Swiss gold bugs? The country moves a step closer to a return to the gold standard, as its parliament moves to discuss the creation of a parallel currency. Switzerland was one of the last countries to decouple from gold in 2000, but the right-wing SVP party is pushing the gold agenda in a fearful climate.

I don't understand what's so hard, or wrong, with having a currency that doesn't expand in supply beyond the rate of growth in economic output?

Rob, historical growth of gold supply is ~ 2.7% annually if I recall correctly. Interestingly it's about equivalent to population growth.

I have not read or thought much about how one would conduct business today with a currency backed by gold, for example with online business, credit cards, pay-pal, debit cards, etc.
