British coffee chain Costa aims to take on Starbucks (SBUX) in China with a plan to have 250 stores opened by the end of the year in the region and 500 stores operational by 2016. It's a slower pace of expansion than Starbucks, but still pits the world's second biggest coffee company against the largest in a key market.

Costa coffee is really expensive. On an extremely frigid Shanghai day stopping by Costa for an cappuccino, was over $6 for it. Nothing is worth that much even if it is superior to Starbucks.
