Worldwide Q2 PC shipments grew by just 2.3%, Gartner says, well below the firm's projected 6.7% increase. The weak preliminary results reflect pressure from iPad (AAPL) and related-product sales, as well as cautious spending. H-P (HPQ) continues to lead, accounting for 17.5% of shipments in Q2, and Dell (DELL) moves into the No. 2 slot for the first time since Q4 of 2008.

I do not believe Gartner's number. I will wait for Intel's number.

What ? You think Gartner admitted to screwing the pooch just for kicks ? You think Intel is going to come up with a better number ? You're hoping that PCs are selling ?

    You might be too long.

It seem as though he is simply calling Gartner's predictions into question. It's not exactly contrarian at this point.

Doesn't everyone already have a computer by now? I've like 6 in my house alone! Faster CPU and more mem are bogus, my 3-4 year old machines still work great

Gartner was negative in Q1 and Intel reported blow-out numbers. I don't know what Gartner counts as a "PC shipment" (the devil is in the details) but I'm not sure it's a good proxy for INTC results.

Once again, Intel will post solid profits, remember that Intel supplies Apple with CPU/Chipsets.

Gartner, indeed, has a very poor track record. That said-- not many netbooks in the news these days.........
