Broadcom's (BRCM +1.3%) 4G baseband modem could allow it to displace Qualcomm (QCOM -1.9%) as Apple's baseband supplier, thinks RBC's Doug Freedman. He argues the relatively small/low-power chip's support for the LTE-Advanced standard and China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network work in its favor, and believes Apple is currently sampling the product. Two caveats: Apple generally isn't quick to change suppliers, and (as is its custom) Qualcomm will probably show off new baseband parts this month at the Mobile World Congress. (Broadcom PR)
