Legislators yesterday introduced the Marketplace Fairness Act in the Senate to enable states to collect sales taxes for Internet transactions carried out in their jurisdictions. Many Republicans and major online retailers have long opposed such a tax but sentiment has changed after Amazon (AMZN) and GOP governors such as Chris Christie expressed support for a federal bill.

    This will kill small mail order houses. Collect and remit to 50 states? And some states have multiple jurisdictions.

    Wow, you mean Amazon suddenly is okay with the idea for states to tax internet businesses, now that they can't get away with avoiding taxation?? What a coincidence!
