American Electric Power (AEP +0.4%) holds its own today, despite a lackluster Q4 that still managed to beat estimates. Net profit sank 93% Y/Y as the company posted sizeable charges related to restructuring and writedowns at one of its Ohio plants. The company boosted its dividend payout ratio however, to 60% to 70% of consolidated earnings, from 50% to 60%, saying it sought to reward shareholders and achieve ratios consistent with its regulated peers.
