Nonperforming loans at Spanish banks fell by €24.1B to €167.4B in December, dropping to 10.4% of total outstanding debt from a record high of 11.4% in November. The decline breaks a run of 20 consecutive months of increases, although it's worth pointing out that the reason for the fall is that lower-quality credit portfolios were transferred to the SAREB bad bank, which started operations in December.
