A third of the way through Q2 reporting season, earnings for S&P 500 companies are their highest in four years, and they could be stronger in the second half. But the gains often have come from operations outside the U.S., with there is little indication that the strong results will jump-start the U.S. economy and get Americans back to work.

  • This is one reason why we are having a hard time getting UE down as the growth is not coming from the US. And it is not obvious that we can raise growth here at the same rate it is running overseas so this is a tough problem that needs to be solved. Higher taxes will only make this problem worse.
