S&P futures -0.1% following the 8:30 data - increasing jobless claims, an outsized bump in core CPI - not following Fed script. Helping futures bounce off session lows is a 2% gain in Wal-Mart following news its sales troubles may be tax refund related, not tax-hike related. The 10-year Treasury yield falls back below 2%. TLT +0.5% premarket.

But I thought QE was supposed to lower claims and not cause the CPI to shoot up? O, that was just the models they drew up. I get it.

CPI ma be higher but inflation wouldn't become much of an issue until the unemployment rate declines much more from here. With headlines like these, the Fed would have to keep QE intact, at least for now.

Did you mean to include that last phrase, "at least for now"?

Welcome to stagflation, ladies and gentlemen. Or maybe deflation. The idea that the Fed could compensate for decades of idiocy in DC, the mass exodus of the manufacturing sector from America and the de-stablilization of the banks was a pure fantasy, a hail Mary, an act of desperation. All they did was delay the inevitable. If I can understand that, I have a hard time believing Bernanke and pals don't. The only explanation is their motives are not aligned with the common good as much as the financial elite, who are now facing the terrible hangover from decades of overindulgence.

Where is Angelo Mozilo and why the hell isn't he in prison?
