With PC industry pessimism steadily rising, analysts think laptops featuring chips using ARM Holdings (ARMH) CPU designs, made possible by Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 8, could provide a lift by enabling "lighter machines with all-day battery life." Nvidia (NVDA) and Qualcomm (QCOM) are looking to sell ARM-based chips to PC manufacturers.

    Transition of Windows and/or laptops to ARM is two years out, at best.

     

    If you assume folks will choose products like ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer, an Android laptop with a keyboard, then it's here now, but I can't see folks migrating over until the software is close to equivalent, which is... two years out.
