J.C. Penney (JCP) is in the process of eliminating up to 10% of its workforce at its headquarters in Texas this week, according to some reports. Execs with the retailer have been rather cryptic on how many jobs the company plans to slash in total as it struggles to regain lost sales.

Did you not see this coming? First the cuts in store staff and now the corporate office. When you are on your heels you have to make thought choices.

Of course we saw this coming. Ron Johnson is selling off the office furniture in Dallas to pay the rent....he doesn't have room for these folks. Seriously, I don't think the captain of the titanic should be laying off the people pumping water out of the hold to save a nickel.

Cutting $8-10 an hour store employees only goes so far...Many of the Execs deserve to go....but everyone thank Ron Johnson on the way out the door

These cuts will come after the previous reduction in force measures about a year ago or so. Running on fumes. Will the last one out please turn out the lights.

So his plan is to cut the main stay of all retailers private brands and offset it with cuts not sales ?
This in the wake of no testing his concepts just doing ? What is the board saying and doing or have they been offered something in return for their lack of governance?

When do 4th quarter 2012 numbers come out....the 28th? We'll see some REAL movement after those numbers come out....'cause Christmas didn't happen for JCP this year. I mean....it was BAD.

    'Turn out the lights'.....that's funny.

It makes sense to start cutting the execs jobs....those of us left in the stores can tell you we are operating with almost no help and those that are left have had their hours cut so badly most of us are leaving....we have no choice. We can't eat. We read that our fearless leader is staying in the Ritz in Dallas....and his hired hands leave early everyday....but WE can't afford to eat. WE who do the bull work, put up with the crap, and let's not talk about the stress this past year or so. Great. Just great.

Ron, no one appreciates the boss when personnel cuts are made, not just in the stores but particularly in the corporate offices. If I recall correctly when a large corporation I was with went private, about 30% of the corporate headquarters was cleared of personnel. The company survived and is public again and healthy. Naturally, there were hard feelings on the part of some departing employees but the balance pitched in, took on more work AND, HAD A JOB.

As a 10-year employee off JCP I saw this coming a year ago. I got out when the getting was good!

Not to mention every time we turn around he is announcing a new VP of something. JCP is way too top heavy right now - he's busy creating new VP positions and hiring all of his friends on to fill them and has to cut the little guys out to help pay the new salaries. We need another Questrom to come save the day!

I worked for jcp for over 40 years. I saw this was time for me to bale and so I did. I retired in 2012 and was glad I did. It seems to me after all the company has gone thru with RJ someone should have seen the light and done something about it. Well RJ turn out the lights the PARTYS OVER! Thank you so much for destroying a once GREAT COMPANY!
