A 33% bandwidth price cut from Rackspace (RAX -2.1%) for cloud infrastructure and CDN services is hurting CDN leader Akamai (AKAM -2.1%) and data center colocation/interconnection firms Equinix (EQIX -1.1%) and InterXion (INXN -2.2%). Rackspace's cuts, which also include volume discounts for storage, are eye-opening in light of past remarks about competing against Amazon (AMZN -0.5%) and other cloud rivals in ways other than price. Rackspace's move follows major cuts (I, II) from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, and a Q4 miss that featured slowing server growth. (Barron's)
