BP (BP +1.7%) bumps higher on reports the that the DOJ and U.S. Gulf states are considering a settlement regarding the 2010 Gulf of Mexico spill. The deal could total $16B and would settle civil claims related to the disaster, and would settle liability owed under the Clean Water Act. The first of two Deepwater Horizon trials is set to begin Monday before a federal judge in New Orleans.

    The settlement had better be lower than that.
    Go BP fight your corner. Throw lawyers at everything. Appeal everything. Drag everything as slow as possible. It's the American way. Look at Exon for how it's done.
