Leaks about Vodafone's (VOD) buyout interest in German cable operator Kabel Deutschland have "complicated internal discussions" and led Vodafone to put its efforts on ice for now, 3 sources tell Bloomberg. Though Vodafone could still make a bid at some point, there's no longer any timetable, and Kabel could strike a deal with another another carrier in the interim - KPN and Telefonica Deutschland (TEF) are seen as potential partners. Kabel -2.5% in Frankfurt.

I think this is a good move by management for now given the conditions in Europe. moblackty

Someone on the inside liked VOD a whole lot! Not only time is the "time not right" on the Continent, why is VOD rushing into cable? Wasn't the recent U.K. purchase enough? Was this fully digested? What are the synergies here? With all the headwinds VOD faces in India with the tax authorities and the economic draw down in Europe continuing unabated, why the sudden shift in business plans? Why is it with VOD one is never sure what the target really is?

VOD's management...is it a U.K. thing like Shell and BP???

disc.: long on VOD, but holding.
