Apple (AAPL -1.8%) and its suppliers slump after iPhone/iPad image sensor provider OmniVision (OVTI -10.9%) issues light guidance to go with its FQ3 beat. CRUS -4.2%. SWKS -1.9%. TQNT -1.7%. AVGO -2%. RFMD -3.2%. BRCM -1.6%. On its FQ3 call, OmniVision would only attribute the guidance to "a seasonal trend of business," while adding smartphone market share trends are "highly, highly volatile right now." Like virtually all other Apple suppliers, OmniVision never mentions Apple by name.

No matter how fast they clone him from existing DNA, he would still have to grow from zygote to adulthood before he became at all useful. Maybe Tim Cook could take a year out and hitch hike to Tibet in search of inspiration for new products.

Yeah, but if we could get Cook to Tibet, I'd argue we leave him there.

Nine of the last eleven days have been traded down or lower closes. The share price is still higher than when Steve passed away. His legacy is still $50 billion a year for last years profit and similar numbers now. Recent lows have barely been broken.
Was there that much fluff ($250 per share) in the share price? What does the dividend amount support as a return on investment compared to other places that money is parked. Granted that the fluctuations in share price every day negate/equal the annual dividend value.

Probably it will start to perk up a bit a couple of weeks before April earnings report. I don't think there is much to lose by being short AAPL for the next month, especially as the debt ceiling issue will be around for a bit.

April earnings is a conundrum. If it surprises to the upside, I see a sharp move upwards, followed by a lot of profit taking and a swift return to $390-$400.

I disagree. Even if they surprise to the upside, I don't see a sharp move upwards. This stock is "out of favor" right now.

Apple can post an EPS of $60 for next quarter, but some analyst will post something negative about the flu hitting the home office hard and the stock will drop a point or 2.

    No, it is not:
oct 7,2011: AAPL: 369- 82 cash: $287 (lasted a couple of days death of SJ).
    mar 1,2013: AAPL: 432-145 cash: $287
Btw, At that time it was selling 20m iphones and 9m ipads. Now it trails 48m iphones and 23m ipads.
Previous occasion it was that low, $287 net, was some days of june 2011, with the Greece crisis soaring, and the in 2010, previous to the existence of iPads.

Apple will be zero by year end if the stock price goes down by this rate. I will loose lot of money. Looks like there no light in the tunnel yet.

IMO the AAPL slide is far from over. Probably another 15% or 60 points putting the stock in the 380 range over the next 5 months. Here's why: As the stock continues to fall the 1yr. target estimates will come down from the 600's to the 500's then the high 400's. This alone will drive the stock lower. Ask yourself, do you really think AAPL will be in the 600's by year end? How about the 500's? Some news regarding a dividend increase or share buyback program will halt the slide but only for a brief period. What ever happens here will be modest at best. Next up: earnings report in April and then again in July. Probably no good news here to report. Then what a refresh of the IPhone or IPad? That's not going to move the needle. I hope AAPL comes out with the next great " must have device" because I'm still long AAPL but only because I'm still playing with house's money.

It looks like Einhorn needs to do more talking. Maybe what he did to GMCR is coming back on him. Sometime what goes around comes around.

Quite frankly, I dont believe that aapl would have come out with any earth shattering product if Jobs were still alive. He reinvented the phone and made an entire market with the iPad. I don't think Jobs would have been able to reinvent another market so quickly. I have tried every popular tablet currently available- the Nexus, the Kindle, the Samsung, and the new Nook. In my opinion, the new iPad is far superior. It is beautifully made with high end materials, it has superior battery life, the retina screen is incredible, its operation is smooth, fluid and works every time and its ecosystem is first rate. None of the other tablets compare - from cheap construction to crashes to freezes to low end user experience. Out of the others, I found the new nook to be the better tablet, the Kindle fire hd to be the absolute worst, and the Samsung & Nexus to be on par with each other.
Out of all the phones I have tried, I believe the iphone 5 is still the best by the same measure as the iPad. I have spent a lot of time with the windows 8 nokia phone and it is also excellent, far better, in my opinion to android.
I have been using the new Microsoft Surface Pro and I have to admit that it is an extraordinary device. Aesthetically, its design is gorgeous. It is magnificently built with magnesium coated metal and its fit and finish is incredible. It feels like the proverbial bank vault in ones hand. It is very fast, fluid and intuitive and it is very, very stable with no issues. I can run all my windows programs on it like office, onenote, word, access, quicken etc. It is a true computer replacement in a beautiful tablet form.It has replaced my laptop. The more I use it, the more it learns and it becomes in tune with its user. It is really an incredible little machine. Its only downside for me is the lack of 4g and the fact that apple wont let me put my ibooks on it.
aapl, the company will continue to produce great products which dominate their market. aapl is not about making products for every niche. They make state of the art products for the higher end. That is where they have excelled and where they will continue to excel. Don't let the falling stock price, as the media would have us believe, equate to a company gone wrong. The stock has crashed simply because the hedge funds that manipulated it up to 705 have now moved onto other companies. They have had their fill of the crowded trade. They have gone on the short side of aapl since the 600's and they also know that the crashing price somehow tarnishes aapl products in the eyes of the less intelligent consumer.
aapl is a great company with some great people like J. Ives on board. They will do just fine and lets hope the hedges will once again enter into a manipulative long position on the stock.

this is one of the best user review of apples tablet and phone in SA. Too many people just make rediculous statements on products that they never used. I agreed 100% on the tablet review but not totally on the phone.

First of all I would like to say within my family (me wife daughter and son) we have all the versions of the iPhone and Motorolar Razz x, Maxx, and HTC DNA. We also have all versions of the iPad, Kindle fire, Yoga.

The iPad is currently by far the best pad in almost every function. I only use the Kindle fire HD to read books which is what it is design for as its main function. In the pad area Apple will have big competition in the next 2 years but also has excellent oppotunity due to the fact the cpu chips are so much faster. Just like the surface pro the Yoga is a window 8 13.3 inch ultrabook/tablet and it functions very well. I believe in the top end window 8 will give apple a big headarch.

For the phone side the iPhone does work well against their competitor up to about 3 months ago. Starting from now things start to get interesting again due to the much faster cpu chips. For general use there is nothing the iPhone 5 can do faster or better than my HTC DNA. My phone has a true 5 inch 1080p display and a quad core 1.5 cpu. Any video will look much better on my phone than the iPhone 5. All functions of the phone is fast like my laptop. Completely better than my last phone razz Maxx which is only release 15 months ago. The new phones that is coming out in the next few month will be even better so the battle field now is very different.

The secrecy around Omnivision (OVTI) is odd. The company must be under contract not to reveal that they supply to Apple.

Apple seems to require that of nearly all suppliers. I find it pretty funny how CRUS goes out of its way not to directly mention Apple on its calls, even though Apple makes up over half its sales.

also - someone got a hold of this info at 3:55 yesterday afternoon, stock dropped 3 points in 5 minutes OVTI insider making a few calls? ugh.

I'm getting pretty tired of this. I"m way to exposed to the "best company in the world" sigh.

Apple has multiple suppliers even for the same component. For the 4S, 8-megapixel sensors are supplied by both Sony and Omnivision, and optics are from both Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical.

If AAPL stock continues to lose $7 or $8 daily, in a month or so I will be ready to back up the truck.
