EMC gives its flash storage lineup an overhaul, with a big assist from 2012 acquisition XtremIO. The storage giant's new XtremSF server flash cards aim to directly take on Fusion-io (FIO); they work in tandem with EMC's XtremSW Cache (formerly VFCache) server caching software, and (according to EMC, anyway) have a major edge in performance and CPU utilization. Also launched is a new XtremIO flash system that's able to linearly scale performance. Going forward, EMC plans to launch the XtremSW Suite, a device-independent flash caching platform.
