Cinemark (CNK +3.4%) holds on to gains late in the day after Lazard Capital upgraded the shares earlier to buy on valuation, citing an improved outlook for international cinema.

    The new article I wrote on Reading International (RDI) (linked, below) supports Lazard's favorable view on international cinema. In addition to discussing Reading in relation to all its publicly traded movie exhibition peers - Regal Cinema, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas. It illustrates Reading’s stronger relative Q2 2011 financial performance can be partially attributed to Reading's international screen mix that is greater than even Cinemark's. There are some very illustrative tables that also show both RDI's and CNK's more conservative balance sheet and RDI"s better risk/reward lower valuation.
