ConocoPhillips (COP) plans to drill up to two exploration wells in remote Arctic waters next year, undeterred by setbacks suffered by Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B). COP is targeting a prospect in the Chukchi Sea farther south than Shell's prospects, meaning a longer open-water season in most years, and plans to use a jackup rig rather than a mobile drillship like the two used by Shell.

COP should be buying WLL before someone else does. Reserves on land easier to produce then out on the icy water.
