Book publishing groups and Barnes & Noble oppose Amazon's (AMZN) bid to nab domain suffix names such as ".book", ".author", and ".read" due to the competitive threat it would present. Internet watchdog ICANN is in the process of doling out rights for top-level domains to companies. Amazon has more than books on its minds as it has applications in the hopper for ".movie" and ".app" as well.
