Inflation in Hong Kong surges to 7.9% Y/Y in July, the fastest pace since 1995, but below estimates of 8.2%. With mortgages available at several hundred basis points less than inflation, it's little wonder HK is having trouble containing its housing boom.

    The 7.9% was inflated by the the government relief measures (rent subsidies for public housing). Without the subsidies considered, inflation should be 5.8%.
