Qualcomm (QCOM) roundup: 1) Though FLO TV didn't work out, Qualcomm still sees potential in using broadcast tech to relieve mobile networks. It's working on a solution that automatically broadcasts content in high demand. 2) After reviewing benchmarks, the Microprocessor Report thinks Nvidia's (NVDA) Tegra 4 will outperform Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 parts. Qualcomm feels differently. 3) The EE Times observes the challenge posed to Qualcomm by MediaTek, whose chips often make up for a lack of cutting-edge performance with competitive pricing and power draw.

I love how QCOM and NVDA are in a "mine is bigger than yours" contest.

They're both building chips at the same fabs on the same process tech. With no real advantage in transistor tech, it all comes down to what they're trying to optimize the SoCs for and how well they can manage the cost/complexity v.s. performance trade-off.

I would add something about Marketing as well.

There are plenty of competitors that win not on a better product, but on a better marketing plan.
