"Lookalike Audiences" represents Facebook's (FB) latest stab at ad targeting: the social networking giant is now giving advertisers the option to target users who have traits similar to those of existing customers. The product complements Facebook's custom audience tool, which lets advertisers target existing customers who have already given them their contact info, and its fast-growing FBX Exchange, which delivers ads based on activity on other site.

    As it's been stated prior, FB appears "free" to users because the product being sold is the user, and the currency is the user's privacy.

    Couldn't be more true, Soldhigh....FB is using its users as suckers to make money for themselves, with the user's privacy as its currency, which is yet another reason why more and more users have stopped using FB, even though most of them are still registered users. I think they're done and I don't think they can achieve their objective to monetize the vast user base, unless they can come up with something totally outside the box, which Mark Z. would be capable of doing if he can stick to what he does best, instead of making things worse trying to manage the business of FB.

    Yet another desperate measure to grab at straws by FB. What will they think of next? Advertisers aren't stupid. They will need solid facts and figures before they commit themselves, which are getting worse by the day.

    True enough ben, except that advertisers seem to believe their own spiel about "targeting" and the like; I suspect they'll run with it for a while, until reality kicks in. It's just a question of "when", isn't it?

    Definitely, gwynfryn.....advertisers will always try anything to beat the competition and ram up their sales...but after a while, at most three months, if nothing spectacular comes out of it, they'll dump FB in a heart-beat.
