File under a healthier lifestyle pays off: The country of Hungary introduces a "fat tax" on consumers buying food high in fat, salt and sugar in order to help cover health care costs. Der Spiegel reports the revenue-maker is also catching on with other European governments strapped for cash.

That's going to be passed along to the consumer anyway, plus producers produce what consumers want - they're not forcing consumers to buy it.

"File under a healthier lifestyle pays off..."

We'll see. In the Obamacare World to come, the government will have control over every aspect of your life. What you can eat. How much you need to weigh in order to be able to access the "full" range of benefits. What lightbulbs you can burn. What showerheads you can use. How your toilet should flush. What color you can paint your house. And on and on.

The thin folks who run things now think they're on top of the game, hence "a healthier lifestyle pays off." But what goes around comes around. There's already a movement to ban marathons because of the excessive use of water and the exhalation of greenhouse gases. Bicycles are nice but why not walk to work? Organic food is trendy but very costly to raise--tax it.

This Brave New World in which the chunky Mrs. Obama gets to lecture me on salt and obesity is a world Brave enough for me and my group of bureaucrats to outlaw international plane travel performed simply for vacations to Spain.

"It's all a matter of whose Ox gets gored."
-- Al Gore instructing a group of students to gore their rivals before they too get gored.

How about simply abolishing public healthcare and allowing the people to grow their asses as wide as they wish on their own nickel?

I don't like big brother but if we were to go this way, its much smarter to do just have add a higher healthcare premium on the obese, smokers, and drug addicts.
