Mondelez (MDLZ +2.9%) trades higher with a Nelson Peltz-premium getting baked into shares on the prospect that the activist investor could push for major changes at the company - possibly even a merger with PepsiCo. JPMorgan analyst Ken Goldman is raining on the PEP-MDLZ speculation parade a bit, saying the companies wouldn't blend together neatly and that a deal could raise anti-trust issues.

A merger of Mondelez and Pepsi would be a great benefit for shareholders. The companies would blend well together - snacks and
soda. What more can anyone ask??

Seems weird considering the new thing is to break companies up "to unlock shareholder value"

Yes, I agree. The Peltz stake in MDLZ is a win-win situation for shareholders, whether there is a merger or not. MDLZ has been undervalued in terms of future earnings growth and investors are just beginning to see the light (with Peltz stake serving as a catalyst). I'm long MDLZ.

I agree with gobraves39401. Peltz did not get to be a rich man by being dumb.
