The Fed is not pursuing a "beggar-thy-neighbor" policy," says Ben Bernanke, speaking in London. In fact the mutual benefits of easing in advanced economies are fairly clear, though less so in emerging markets. The speech contains no mention of the U.S. economic or monetary policy outlook.

    I never thought it was. I thought it was a "beggar anyone but big banks" policy with a side order of "beggar anyone crazy enough to be trying to save for their retirement or anyone stuck trying to live on interest income" policy and, for dessert, an "inflate another bubble or three" policy. A veritable smorgasbord of policy stupidity, it is.
