Vonage (VG) looks to eliminate middlemen such as Level 3 Communications (LVLT) in order to draw directly from pools of unused phone numbers. The move would "delink phone numbers from geography" but more importantly for shareholders, would result in a cost advantage for Vonage as spending on number leasing would fall.
