Nasdaq OMX (NDAQ) will acquire eSpeed, an electronic trading platform for U.S. Treasuries from BGC Partners for $750M in cash. The purchase will be accretive to earnings within the first year after the transaction closes. The addition of eSpeed gives Nasdaq a "strong entry point in the electronic fixed income business" at a time when positive market trends should contribute to an increase in the daily trading volume of U.S. government bonds.
