Zynga (ZNGA +12.4%) rips higher as its first real-money gambling titles go live in the U.K. two months ahead of schedule. It doesn't hurt that 17.8% of the float was shorted as of March 15. TechCrunch observes Zynga is accepting payments in U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars, euros, and yen (in addition to pounds), perhaps setting the stage for fast international expansion. "Our long term vision is to offer ... real money games on multiple platforms in regulated markets worldwide," Zynga states, while promising U.K. Facebook/mobile launches later this year. GLUU +2.9%. ZNGA is running a skin on bwin/party. Nothing (really) exciting considering bwin's recent profitability ... or perhaps I am missing something.

HS -- Zynga on-line poker has > 10x more players than all real-money poker sites combined. It is not quite "play" poker as there is money that changes hands in a variety of ways. I have come to believe that Zynga can convert many of their poker game customers to small stakes real money players -- on the order of 50cents - 1dollar limit holdem or 10c-20c no-limit -- games which involve the risk of $50 or so.

This is why the real-money poker sites want to partner with zynga.

There is another aspect. party poker, poker stars and all the rest are tainted. Rightly or wrongly most folks believe they are mob controlled and crooked in some way. Zynga is pure as the driven snow. An American start-up with no connection to organized crime or shady off-shore money laundering. Their reputation will prove invaluable in attracting real-money players to on-line poker.

Glenn - reputation pure as the driven snow? Have you done any reading on their security problems with on line hacking? Go on line and ask around what their high stake players are saying. I lost all my chips with them and found that I was only one of many. ZNGA is very very hackable. If their security cannot be trusted with play chips, who would ever trust them with real money?
