"With phones, there’s no room for a right-hand column of ads. That forced us to think about what the business looks like on mobile," says Mark Zuckerberg (FB) in an interview released following today's unveiling of Facebook Home, which will eventually deliver home page ads. Perhaps hinting at a future product, Zuck adds "There’s a place for a service that only communicates with your core friends and family." For now, Google (GOOG) isn't raising objections to Home, even though it removes the Google search bar from Android's home page on many devices.

The last thing I'd want is a FB Home screen on my phone.

Why? You don't want targeted ads on the home page of your phone?

Will Google gets cut on FB Home ads? A few weeks ago FB bought an advertising platform from MSFT. FB must be working on integrating it to Home and bypassing Google altogether.

I don't see how Google would get anything from the ads. They'd probably actually lose money from searches, since FB would likely make their own search engine the easiest to access.

Who cares what google thinks. I don't own google I own FB. Anything that can shave any small amount of google's share is brilliance.

The google search bar (a removable widget) was the first thing I deleted from the home screen on my android smartphone. I'm also running a different application launcher which replaces the manufacturers home screen. There are many application launchers available on googles app store so a facebook home screen may be replaced very quickly by users who want to recover the part of the screen covered by adverts.

Time to get ready to short FB again, when any short-lived run-up runs out of steam, especially when the hype dies down eventually without any significant or lasting effect.
