A PA court ruling throws into the air who owns all of the natural gas buried in the Marcellus shale, and leaves oil and gas companies wondering whether they've signed drilling leases with the right people. The case may take 2 years to work through the courts and could unleash "waves of litigation."

Damn near anything can and does unleash "waves of litigation" in modern day America.

This sounds like something that will eventually be settled out of court by having the oil and gas companies and the folks that they bought these leases from giving a cut to the people who brought this lawsuit (and all the others who will bring lawsuits now). While that is getting worked out, many lawyers will get even wealthier.
