The ace in the hole: News Corp. (NWS, NWSA) threatens to move the Fox channel to cable if Aereo isn't stopped by a judge from retransmitting shows through its innovative technology which appears to skirt around federal transmission laws. If CBS, ABC, and NBC followed suit it would mark the end of the traditional broadcasting model. (Aereo timeline)

Not gonna happen. How would they get out of the contracts with the local affiliates? This move would equal what Johnson did with JC Penny.

They would not need to get out of contracts. The Owned and Operated stations would go cable, which are mostly in the top 20 markets of the U.S.

Sure but Fox has over 100 other stations who they don't own. They would also have a huge lawsuit from the affiliates in broadcasting the same programs on cable. It would create a logistical nightmare in separating Fox locally owned stations going to cable and affiliates remaining over the air.
