The dollar store group (DG, FDO, DLTR) is on watch after Family Dollar misses estimates with its FQ2 report and cuts its outlook for the second half of the fiscal year. The retailer's alarming assessment on consumer spending trends could also influence sentiment on Wal-Mart (WMT).

    All 3 dollar stores - $34B in market cap. Walmart - $256 billion in market cap. Please stop presenting dollar stores as this hugely credible threat to Walmart.

     

    Target, as a single company, has a market cap of 44B. I dont worry about Target as a Walmart investor, and I am not going to worry about dollar stores that are as small in relation to Walmart as some regional hardware retailers are to Home Depot.
