Yahoo's (YHOO +1.6%) $30M acquisition of Summly, criticized by more than a few writers for being a PR-driven move, included "the acquisition of IP, code, and technology" from SRI International (provider of the language-processing tech behind Summly), a source tells BI. The source adds Yahoo plans to use summarization tech to create "personalized news feeds" for mobile version of top Yahoo properties, and that the company is internally calling Summly "Yahoo's Siri." If true, the report goes a long way towards explaining the deal. (Yahoo/Apple)
