Google's (GOOG -3.6%) primary reason for seeking to acquire Motorola (MMI) was gaining a hardware partner who knows how to build the next generation of phones, not the patents, Eric Schmidt says. Motorola "made a decision to go to Android... three or four years ago, and so we already know that they believe in it, that they can act on it, that they can partner with us."

    Really?

Then why didn't Google buy MMI in 2008 or 2009? See http://bit.ly/rduxPZ ...There were no "nibbles" for MMI. It was only when the vultures descended on Nortel's carcass that MMI became worth $12.5 billion.
