Airlines look set to lose a fight with the EU over an emissions trading scheme after a non-binding opinion reads in part: "International aviation in the EU emissions trading scheme is compatible with international law." Carriers landed on the radar of the EU starting in 2008 because they account for close to 3% of global greenhouse gases.
