Ummm, might want to double-check that after-hours performance. Try down about 5%

Earnings call at 5 Eastern. The vote probably won't be in until tomorrow.

Looks like shares of Alcoa will be on sale when the market opens. There are times I absolutely detest analysts, then there are times like these.

But then, if the shares will be on a *better* sale 1 month from now, why buy now? That's the real question, isn't it?

You'd have to have a crystal ball that can tell you what will happen in Europe between now and then, the price of aluminum, and investor sentiment as far as willingness to hold for the long term. A BBB- rating doesn't say much for the company, but on the other hand, buying near multi-year lows for a company of Alcoa's stature and competitive capabilities is tempting. Aside from the '09 break, you'd have to go back to 1995 to buy AA this cheap. You're still looking at book value of over $14 per share and adequate cash flow and a low payout % on dividends. If the company is hit hard tomorrow or in the following sessions, I would consider being a buyer. Recall that when the price of aluminum was in an uptrend earlier this year, AA touched $18.
